The proposed works to create an accessible community space which include wildlife friendly management methods, to enhance the natural features of the site and profile the habitats for wildlife.
1) Apply for planning permission for removal of two Leylandii (Completed) and approval from the Diocese.
2) With guidance from the Ecologist, there will be a ‘soft touch’ removal of many years of grass cuttings (Completed) and remnants of previously fallen trees.
3) Construction of habitat wall with use of fallen tree branches/twigs (Completed)
Clearance to a spring feeding the stream
1) Removal of invasive bamboo
2) Planting of replacement screening
3) Clearing of gravel on riverbank (on pub car park side, ready for planting of new hedgerow in November).
4) Selected vegetation, as advised by the Ecologist, will be cut back/removed.
5) The creation of aesthetic habitat piles on site to increase the structural habitat diversity and opportunities for a variety of species, whilst creating an accessible space for the community.
6) Mature hazel stools and alder trees will be left to maintain the structural aesthetics of the site and control future scrub growth.

Clearing the stream (before)
Clearing the stream (after)
1) Removal of two Leylandii. Brash will be chipped and taken off site. Larger logs will be made available for villagers. These will not be used in habitat piles as it is a non-native species and wouldn’t be of value for insects as they will not eat/use them.
